Artist information

Ezekiel Madiba, also know as Boycie, was born on the 5th of April 1948 in Eastwood. Ezekiel developed an interest in art while at secondary school in Walmanstad. He attended art classes and he also found an interest for wood carving.

Ezekiel has worked for numerous companies in South Africa. He has learnt many skills working as designer in a curtain factory.

Ezekiel also worked for a stone cutting business where he was able to do stone carving.

Today Ezekiel lives in Mabopane, a small town north of Pretoria, with his family. His elderly mother is very much the head of the household, and cannot understand her sons' creative urge. She complains bitterly about his strange and non-lucrative occupation.

Many of Ezekiel's works have a strong religious theme.

At home he works daily in the very small lounge with little light. He dreams of owning his own studio where he will be able to concentrate on larger sculptures.
