MARCH NEWSLETTER
> Africa After a month's buying trip in South
Africa - we are back. We were invited to numerous art exhibitions
and it was great to see the new ideas and talent on show.
Back in London, it's inspiring to see that there is growing
interest in African Art. Exhibitions currently on at that moment:
African remix at the Hayward Gallery; and the out of Africa and
Healing Exhibition at the school of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, to
name a few. But we still have a long way to go - the public it
seems have a very narrow view of what art from African countries
should look like.
> New commissions Recently we were
given two small commissions to do; One was a collection of
photographs - the objective was to capture the images in portrait
form in any media. Commercial Artist Sue Beaty and an emerging
artist Samantha McKenzie managed to complete this commission in
record time.
The second
commission is a very tricky assignment. It consists of 10 painted
glass panels that are currently housed in an Asian Restaurant.
Over time the paintwork has faded and chipped off due to the use
of bright lighting. The original artist has since passed away. The
owner has asked us to restore them to their former glory.
From next month we
will start featuring new emerging artists that we have discovered. Every month we hope to bring you news of events, shows and new
artists, if you
