Art as an Investment

Jeannette Unite's work has increased dramatically in price over the past 5 years by about 650%

In Cape Town she sells a piece in 2004 for £2500 - a similar artwork would have sold for £300 five years back. This exceeds the increase in property values in Cape Town where her studio is based – property values have increased by 400% in the same period

Some possible reasons that can be ascribed to her success:

  • PATRONS: Clifford Chance Brussels  bought out a whole exhibition in 2001. Corporates such as Swiss:Re and high profile individuals have also supported the work well.
  • Exposure that led to patronage amongst the new Black African elite in South Africa. Jeannette co-organized a cultural initiative in Scandinavia with the South African High commissioner in London, Cheryl Carolus.
  • In South Africa she is now regarded as one of the more successful artists - when she started selling work internationally the pricing also shifted onto an international scale- and in spite of this she is still reasonable in International terms

MEDIA: Television in Africa including Summit TV (an African Continent Business Channel) have taken an interest.

Johannes Du Plessis has held many exhibitions over the past 21 years in South Africa and internationally, His works are represented in public and private collections all over the world.

Since 1995 his work has started to increase in demand and value. The influx of foreign visitors to South Africa, has resulted in an increase of sales. In 1997 he had his first private exhibition in Zurich which was very successful. A follow-up exhibition was held in 1999, with similar results. His most successful exhibition was held in 2001 in the Netherlands.
